About
the Conference:
The public health consequences of natural and intentional disasters cut across
many substantive areas. This unique multidisciplinary conference will bring
together academicians, researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers from public
health, mental health, community disaster preparedness and response, social
sciences, government, media, and non-governmental organizations.
Conference
Goal:
To provide an annual forum that continues to promote a dialogue and exchange
of ideas between local health departments and others involved in improving emergency
public health preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery.
Who
Should Attend this Conference:
The Conference is designed for public health professionals as well as individuals
and organizations from both the public and private sectors involved in emergency
public health preparedness and response. The diverse topics will be relevant
to public health and medical practitioners, emergency medical services professionals,
researchers, and managers involved in the wide range of emergency public health
issues resulting from natural and human-generated disasters.
Poster
Session:
The UCLA Center for Public Health and Disasters will host a student poster session
on Sunday, May 18, 2008, 6:30-9:00pm. This poster session will be held in conjunction
with the evening reception; therefore, allowing presenters to explain their
research and network with conference attendees.
Please note that posters should be on display by 6:00pm on Sunday night. Poster session participants should also plan to be available for the duration of the reception to informally discuss their poster and answer any questions from conference attendees.

Health Educators, CHES:Sponsored by the Pacific Public Health Training Center, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is designated for the CHES to receive Category I CECH in health education. PPHTC Provider Number: CA1162; NCHEC Provider Number: MEP2364. CPHD will issue a certificate of attendance with indication of the total CHEC earned.
BRN, MICN, Paramedic, EMT : Continuing Education for BRN, MICN, Paramedics, and EMTs is provided by the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care. UCLA CPC is an approved CE Provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing # CEP-12416, and the California State EMS Authority # 19-0307. Course objectives available upon request. The Center for Prehospital Care will issue a certificate of attendance with indication of the total contact hours earned.

Fee covers all materials, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, and 1 evening reception.

Accommodations:
A block of rooms has been reserved at the special rate of $147/night plus tax
for single and double occupancy and $157/night plus tax for triple and quadruple
occupancy. Please book directly with the hotel and indicate that you are attending
the UCLA Conference on Public Health and Disasters. The block of rooms will
be reserved until May 2, 2008, after which prevailing rates and availability
