WORKSHOP
1: CONDUCTING A HAZARD RISK ASSESSMENT

The 2005-06 Public Health Preparedness guidance from CDC requires that
all jurisdictions conduct a hazard assessment. This workshop utilizes a tool
developed to assist public health agencies in identifying their community's
hazards, assessing the likelihood of occurrence, and quantifying their impacts
on the public's health. Participants will learn how to utilize the tool to conduct
a hazard risk assessment for their jurisdiction.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Assess the probability
of hazards in your community.
Assess the vulnerability
of your community and public health agency in relation to the impact of the
hazard.
Score the hazard’s
consequences on human impact, interruption of healthcare services, community
impact, and impact on the public health infrastructure.
Conduct a risk analysis
for each hazard based on its probability and the severity of its consequences.

2: KEEPING YOUR WORKFORCE SAFE

Responding to public health emergencies can present a risk to the health and
safety of your workforce. This workshop will provide you with the knowledge
and skills to identify potential health and safety hazards and develop strategies
to protect the workforce.
By the end of this
workshop, participants will be able to:
Understand the role and
limitations of a Public Health Responder with“Awareness Level” knowledge
of hazardous situations.
Identify the three (3)
categories of hazardous materials.
Discuss the three (3) common
routes of chemical exposures during a hazmat incident.
WORKSHOP
3: WRITING INCIDENT ACTION PLANS

Clear Incident Action Plans are necessary for an effective and efficient emergency
response. This workshop will provide you with the details of how to write an
Incident Action Plan that is required in a NIMS-compliant response.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
List the major steps involved
in the planning process.
Explain the criteria for
determining when the Incident Action Plan should be prepared in writing.
Explain the use of Operational
Periods in the planning process and how Operational Periods are derived.
Explain the function of
the various Incident Action Planning Worksheets (ICS Forms), which maybe used
in preparing the Incident Action Plan.
Identify the kinds of supporting
materials included in an Incident Action Plan.

4: WORKING WITH YOUR HOSPITALS

This workshop will provide information and techniques to improve the health
department's ability to work effectively and efficiently with their hospital
communities.

Define
medical surge capacity and capability.
Identify
strategies for improving compliance with surveillance requests.
Identify
key hospital contacts in an emergency situation.
